Characteristics of BTS members' choreography by Big Hit performance director
Until the group BTS is in its current position, their choreography, or performance, is one of the history that cannot be left out.
The 10th anniversary of their debut is even more meaningful to performance director Lee Byung-eun of Big Hit Music, who is in charge of BTS's performance and has been working with the members for a long time. He accompanied him for a long time, participating in performances of all BTS's stage-related songs, including albums, concerts, content, and awards ceremonies, as well as major songs such as "Butter," "Dynamite" and "Boy With Luv." Director Lee Byung-eun talked about the past, present, and future of BTS's performance in an interview with Daily Sports.
Director Lee Byung-Eun said, "The members of the BTS have been able to get this position with more effort and practice than anyone else over the past decade. I'm happy to be with you at that moment of glory and I hope those moments will continue, he said. "I will also run toward the 20th anniversary together."
K-pop idol groups, including BTSs, will present live dance performances in front of their fans. As such, not only singing but also performance elements are very important popular factors. This is because it is the part that can best show their "coolness." Since its debut, BTS has been very popular with its sophisticated choreography and overwhelming sharp group dance. It is also a part of their growth as a global group. So far, most of the BTS music has recorded more than 50 million views (based on BTS's official channel).
Director Lee Byung-eun said, "In the early days of our debut, we made a lot of efforts to show an energetic stage like a rookie." "The members were also well aware of the importance of this part, and they practiced and completed the choreography with the detail of starting from the beginning of each small movement was wrong."
Director Lee Byung-eun picked "I Need You," "On," and "Run BTS" as the best choreography in BTS. All three pieces of music were performed with dozens or as many as 100 performance team members to enhance visual completeness.
There have been many changes in BTS music over the past 10 years. Although it started based on hip-hop, it now sings songs with a lot of pop elements mixed with comfortable melodies aimed at the global market. You can see BTS's unique musicality, such as "Butter," "Dynamite," and "Old Two Comes." Director Lee Byung-eun said, "As the years go by, the music spectrum of BTSs has widened and it has become a great team that is not limited to one genre. As a result, the choreography also changed in many ways. " He then explained, "We are trying to organize a relaxed performance to suit the melody except for the point choreography so that we can appeal to each other's charms more than doing tight dances like in the past."
He said it takes a month to two months to plan the choreography alone. He said he tried to add the best choreography to the best music. Director Lee Byung-eun said, "Since I am a 10-year-old artist, I work hard to make choreography according to my individual colors and color." "I work while discussing with the members what suits each of them," he said.
Director Lee Byung-eun also mentioned the characteristics of each member's choreography. He said, "RM tends to prepare and review firmly when preparing for the stage, so he uses stable play. "Jin is sensitive to choreography in a standard way, so he practices very well before going on stage," he explained. He then commented, "Suga expresses hip and swag gestures or moods well, and J-Hope knows how to use various emotional elements because of his strong street dance base and wide spectrum of genres."
In addition, "Jimin's choreography line is very flexible and textured, so even if he does hip choreography, he has a little seductive charm." He explained, "V quickly learns the choreography and expresses his style well with ad-libs." Regarding the youngest Jungkook, he pointed out, "He has a naturally developed physical sense, so he uses an energetic and stable play."
Regarding the blood, sweat, and tears that BTS shed for 10 years, director Lee Byung-Eun said, "The members practice with their souls more than ever before when preparing for the stage. "I'm so happy and proud when I prepare those stages painfully and produce good results in the future," he said with affection.
